Course for Managers, Operators and Consultants
The Centre for the Development of Enterprise (C.D.E.), the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (I.C.E.) and the Internazionale Marmi e Macchine (I.M.M.) will organise and sponsor an on-site training session for Managers, Operators and Consultants of ACP Dimension Stone Companies. The Course will be held in Carrara, Italy from May 28th to June 3rd 2003.



This initiative for the dimension stones (DS) sector, already done in the past by the CDE International Fairs (Carrara, Madrid and Borba), is to meet the need for continued training and capacity building of the operators and actors of the sector in ACP countries.



The training seminar is designed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of ACP Managers, Operators and Consultants, to enable them to run a DS company in a modern and effective way following the needs and requirements of the international market. The seminar will be focussed on providing the ACP participants with a better understanding of management techniques and organisation, through theoretical session and technical visits in selected Italian stone companies. Expert DS consultants and skilled Italian professional People will follow the seminar.



Topics to be covered will include:

- The entire production phase (quarrying and processing organisation along with related equipment, security and environmental aspects);

- The current situation of the international DS sector;

- The commercial department in the DS companies;

- The financing and implementation of a DS projects in the ACP countries .



The working language of the seminar will be English. Consultants speaking English and French will always accompany the participants. The seminar will consist of six days of theoretical and practical sessions in Carrara, at the IMM Head Office and half day of the final day for final debriefing. The training could be continued by attending CARRARAMARMOTEC 24th International Fair for Marble Machinery and Services, from the 4th to the 6th of June 2003.



The seminar is opened to ACP promoters companies, operating in the DS sector (granite, marble and stone) and interested by developing and improving the skills of their executive management and staff. In particular, the Course is addressed to ACP entrepreneurs (with at least secondary school diploma) who have already a good experience in the stone company management and to technicians with high level education.



Applicants to the seminar should present the following characteristics:

- Technical study background with specific experience in the DS company management;

- Secondary school diploma and at least 5 years experience in DS companies with executive functions;

- University level even without specific stone skill;

- English or French speaking;





A maximum of 25 participants will be accepted:

- 15 participants will be co-financed by the organising Institutions (CDE-ICE-IMM);

- 10 participants can attend the Course at their own expenses.


The entire course can also be attend by ACP Company representatives not selected by organisers (directors, owners or managers), directly involved in the company management, quarrying or marketing, who wish to participate at their own expenses and organise travel and accommodation by themselves.
